Despite economic turmoil, 2009 is a great year to buy a Mazda
The General Manager of Angevaare Mazda is patiently awaiting a new arrival that?s due on the showroom floor early next year. It?s the Mazda2, a sub-compact model that was declared World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show in March, 2008. The Mazda2 is currently sold in Europe and Asia. ?By spring we?ll have the Mazda2,? said Terry Angevaare. ?It?s one car the world wants.? The Mazda2 will compete with the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Nissan Versa, Chevy Aveo and others. Jurors at the 2008 World Car of the Year competition said consumers will be drawn to the Mazda2 because of its appealing looks and high level of standard equipment for the price. ?We?re looking forward to getting this new vehicle,? says Angevaare. ?It?s something we need in Peterborough, which is a very price-conscious city. Some people are finding things a little tough right now so to get the quality of a Mazda and an inexpen- sive price is going to be great.? Angevaare has seen the ups and downs of the auto business for nearly four decades, having worked with his father who introduced Mazda to Peterborough in 1970. Terry, along with brothers Ben and Rob, bought the dealership from their father in 1988 and moved to their present Lansdowne Street West location in 1993. ?All three of us started in the service department and had at least 15 years in that field before moving on,? says Terry who is General Manager and Dealer Principal. ?Rob basically looks after the service department and oversees the parts department and Ben handles fixed operations. ?All three of us have busy jobs and are involved in the business on a day-to-day basis,? he adds. ?We have received several awards from Mazda including Dealer of Distinction, and they are all the result of how we treat our customers. We want everyone to have a great experience here, whether it?s buying or servicing their vehicle.? The sub-compact Mazda2, currently sold in Europe and Asia, was declared 2008 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show. Mazda reduced prices on most of its vehicles by up to $2,000 and, until the end of July, is offering zero per cent financing or up to $4,300 in incentives on selected models for those paying cash. Despite the economic situation over the past year and the turmoil in the automotive world, Angevaare says it?s ?a great time to buy a car, that?s for sure.? Mazda, in 2009, reduced prices on most of its vehicles by up to $2,000 and, until the end of July, is offering zero per cent financing on selected models or up to $4,300 in incentives on selected models for those paying cash. ?We have a number of good programs,? says Angevaare. ?Mazda has been very aggressive and with world class, award-winning products, we haven?t really been affected by the downturn in the economy.? The Mazda3 is definitely the dealership?s biggest seller, and has been completely redesigned for 2010 ? its first full revision in five years. Here?s some of what the 2010 model offers: All new exterior and interior styling Chassis refinements leading to improved rear body roll control and more responsive steering, along with improvements in structural rigidity for superior handling and classleading aerodynamics Safety and engineering improvements, with standard active anti-whiplash front head restraints on all models as well as Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control System (standard on GT, optional on GS) New technologies and segment-leading features such as Bi-Xenon headlights with an available Adaptive Front Light System (AFS), dual zone climate control, rain sensing wipers, power memory driver?s seat, an available navigation system and Bluetooth with Audio Profile. The 2010 Mazda3 offers two engine choices: 148 hp, 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder (standard) or 167 hp, 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder (optional). A 5-speed sport mode automatic transmission is available on all models. It has also earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety?s highest rating in frontal crash test and the Canadian Black Book?s ?Top 10 Best Retained Value Award.? Angevaare credits the dealership?s success to the staff of 18, most of whom are long-time employees, and the fact that the three owners play an active, daily role in the operation. The business also gives back to the community by supporting many causes and charitable organizations such as the PRHC Foundation, Crossroads, Hospice Peterborough and others. ?We have a loyal, long-servicing staff, and we like to think it?s a great place to work,? says Angevaare. ?Even though I?ve been doing this for nearly 40 years, I still enjoy coming to work each day.? - Special to the Examiner
